In September, New York City will be a storm of action on the climate crisis and it's a great time to get involved! Starting with a special guest speaker at our monthly meeting, followed by a series of actions, forums, art builds, and events, culminating in the Climate Strike. We need your support to make this an event of massive proportions. Together we can accomplish so much!

September 350Brooklyn Meeting

Thursday, September 12, 7:30-9:30 pm
Brooklyn Commons, 388 Atlantic Avenue

This month we have the great pleasure of welcoming Samara Swanston, the legislative counsel for the Environmental Committee of the New York City Council. With 25 years of experience in environmental law, Samara Swanston will speak to us about about the work of the City Council and how we can all play a more effective role in moving the city forward on the climate crisis.

You can also learn more about September actions and how you can plug in.

We meet the second Thursday of every month, so mark your calendars for upcoming meetings. And, while the meeting starts at 7:30, come earlier to chat and grab something to eat and drink!

Sept 18: We Kick Off 350Brooklyn's Climate Wednesdays

Wednesday, September 18, 7 pm to 8:30 pm
Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Info Commons Lab

We're beginning our monthly series, “Climate Wednesdays: Solutions for a Cooler Brooklyn," in collaboration with the Brooklyn Public Library.

On September 18, join us for The Big Green Picture:Local Strategies for a Livable World. Our city and state are setting the pace with historic laws aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, cars, and industry. Yet the fossil fuel industry keeps rolling out new pipelines and other infrastructure intended to lock us in for at least a generation, with some communities bearing a much heavier burden than others. What's been achieved, and where do we go from here? Learn more here.

We want to draw in people who might be worried about the climate crisis but don’t know how to get involved. Help spread the word. Share the event on social media and with everyone you know.

Shout Out to 350Brookyn Participants in CNN’s Climate Town Hall

On September 4, CNN televised a historic town hall with ten candidates for the Democratic nomination for President focused on the climate crisis.

Two 350Brookyn members were picked to ask questions!

Wendy Fleischer, who works on our Gowanus Committee, asked Andrew Yang why the US should lead on climate change and how his plan would ensure that hardworking Americans would benefit, not be harmed, by his plan.

And Robert Wood, who is a lead on our Stop Williams Campaign, asked Elizabeth Warren if she would support the public ownership of utilities, given that the profit motive undermines utilities’ current commitment to solving the climate crisis. Great work, Wendy and Robert!

350Brooklyn takes local action to solve the climate crisis. We are an all-volunteer organization and welcome people of all backgrounds, skills, and availability. Interested in volunteering? Contact [email protected]. While we are an affiliate of 350.org, we are programmatically independent and our financial support comes solely from our members. Can you offer financial support?
