“When Roe was imposed on America in 1973 by seven men on the U.S. Supreme Court, elected officials responded by making clear that no American taxpayer would be expected to fund abortion overseas and that no taxpayer dollars could be used to either coerce or motivate anyone to perform abortions overseas. That’s what the simple, commonsense Helms Amendment makes clear." —Tom Shakely, Chief Engagement Officer at Americans United for Life

What is next for pro-life legislation?
(CNA) Steve Aden, chief legal officer and general counsel for Americans United for Life, told CNA that the  Missouri judge “just rolled right over” the different bans in the law and, instead of considering each on their specific merits, “tossed them all out in a heap, so to speak, based on Casey.” According to the judge’s reasoning, the bans violated existing Supreme Court precedent of the “viability” standard; the law “seems designed, as here, as a protest against Supreme Court decisions,” he wrote.

(NC Register) Tom Shakely, the chief engagement officer at Americans United for Life, says that the 2020 Democrats were making an extreme break against long-established bipartisan bans on taxpayer-funded abortion. “When Roe was imposed on America in 1973 by seven men on the U.S. Supreme Court, elected officials responded by making clear that no American taxpayer would be expected to fund abortion overseas and that no taxpayer dollars could be used to either coerce or motivate anyone to perform abortions overseas,” he emphasized. “That’s what the simple, commonsense Helms Amendment makes clear."

Women Don’t Need Planned Parenthood to Get Affordable Care
(Daily Signal) "Planned Parenthood cleverly downplays its role in abortion by counting all individual services it performs and citing abortion as a low percentage overall. But in terms of revenue and core advocacy, providing abortions is central."

What Did Bernie Sanders Say about Abortion and Poor Countries?
(National Review) "Washington Post writer Aaron Blake says that Republicans are distorting the senator’s remarks, although he concedes that Sanders differs from other Democrats in how he is talking about population control."

Ruth Bader Ginsburg shows no sign of slowing down amid health scares
(The Hill) “This audience can see that I am alive,” she continued, adding that her role on the court kept her motivated despite health issues. “I love my job. It is the best and hardest job that I ever had,” she said. “It has kept me going through four cancer bouts. Instead of concentrating on my aches and pains, I just know that I have to read this set of briefs.”
