Today is International Wrongful Conviction Day ([link removed]) — a day to examine the causes and remedies of wrongful conviction and recognize the tremendous personal, social, and emotional costs for both the innocent and their loved ones.
Innocent people are wrongfully convicted and incarcerated around the world every day. Collectively, clients of Innocence Network organizations have spent more than 9,290 years behind bars for crimes they did not commit.
There are four ways that you can show your support today:
1. The Innocence Network is hosting its first-ever, all-day livestream. Catch our talk at 1 p.m. ET where we’ll discuss the need for police accountability and transparency — especially as it relates to wrongful conviction — and how laws and policies consistently shield law enforcement and allow them to act with effective immunity.
