John,

If you watched the debate coverage this week, you've seen our TV ad. Chris Wallace declined to bring up the issue of immigration on Tuesday, so we did.

Joe Biden and Senate Democrats have said they plan to act on immigration immediately if they win the coming elections. They want to greatly increase legal immigration and also reward illegal aliens with an amnesty legalizing almost every illegal alien in the United States.

But many Democrat and Independent voters oppose these plans.

27 years ago, Pres. Clinton appointed Rep. Barbara Jordan chairwoman of a commission to make recommendations on immigration policy. She had unmatched progessive bona fides: the first woman and the first African-American ever to keynote a national convention; also, she was chair of the House Democratic Steering Committee.

At the time, the economy was booming. Employment rates were reaching their highest levels ever. BUT wages were still where they had been decades earlier. Her commission's findings pointed out the grave harm of uncontrolled, massive immigration on working-class America:

"The commission finds no national interest in continuing to import lesser-skilled and unskilled workers to compete in the most vulnerable parts of our labor force. Many American workers do not have adequate job prospects. We should make their task easier to find employment, not harder."

Both parties betrayed her and her commission. Huge corporations wanted more and more cheap labor. Special interest groups saw electoral advantages in growing numbers of political supporters. Congress failed to enact her commission's recommendations.

The floodgates opened wider. Enforcement against illegal immigration got weaker, not stronger. Legal immigration surged as chain migration made more and more lesser-skilled workers eligible for immigration.

That's why NumbersUSA was created. We help American citizens fight for an immigration policy that serves the national interest, not the interests of multinational corporations and Washington insiders.

Washington still doesn't like to talk about reducing immigration, even with tens of millions of unemployed Americans. The issue is more urgent than ever, but Tuesday's debate included not a single question about it. We put the issue in front of voters when the national news media won't.

We have millions of activists and social-media fans like you spreading our message to Congress and to their fellow Americans. Together, you've sent millions of messages each year, to your own elected officials. And you've helped us reach your fellow Americans more than a billion times on social media.

We've made great strides on limiting further illegal immigration. But unless the next Congress turns the increased enforcement into permanent law, all that progress can get wiped away by future administrations.

Also, merely fighting illegal immigration is not enough. Under current U.S. law, any children born to illegal aliens present in the U.S. automatically become citizens. And any citizens, including recipients of past amnesties, can help more and more relatives come over legally, regardless of whether they have needed skills.

John, so many of our members have been hurt by the economic crisis. If you're among them, all we ask is that you make the best use of the tools that our donors have helped us build for you.

If you can give to help us fight for America, we urgently need your financial support. Please give today.
