Our new Our Children’s Trust logo!
Dear friends and supporters,
You’ve been hearing from us a lot this year.
2020 has been unprecedented in so many ways. We’re all struggling with the global pandemic. We’re elevating demands for social justice and embroiled in a polarizing U.S. presidential election. Devastating wildfires and destructive hurricanes continue to threaten so many, and the loss of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg will continue to reverberate. It’s been a challenging year, and we hope you are all as well as possible as you navigate all of this and more.
Nonetheless, here at Our Children’s Trust, we are undeterred. Young people - especially those in our most vulnerable communities - need us to stand with resolve and not settle for fear or despair. Justice WILL prevail. We WILL prevail. This year alone, critically, we filed an en banc petition in Juliana v. U.S., supported by numerous “friend of the court” amicus briefs, to advance the right of the Juliana ([link removed]) youth plaintiffs to prove their case at trial and secure their constitutional climate rights. Also in 2020, our team began representing and supporting youth in new climate cases in Montana ([link removed]) and Mexico ([link removed]) and partnered with members of U.S. Congress to introduce a new concurrent congressional resolution recognizing Children’s Fundamental Rights and Climate Recovery ([link removed]) . We’ve argued in court on behalf of
youth plaintiffs in Florida ([link removed]) and Washington ([link removed]) , and are supporting attorneys and youth plaintiffs in La Rose v. Her Majesty the Queen ([link removed]) as they went to court yesterday and today in Canada. We’ve supported youth petitioners taking legal action in North Carolina ([link removed]) and Colorado ([link removed]) , and prepared for decisions from the state supreme courts in Alaska ([link removed]) and Oregon ([link removed]) . And there is no slowing down: our team is working hard to build cases in new jurisdictions on behalf of youth harmed by the climate crisis.
Our new logo for Our Children’s Trust’s legal actions around the globe!
You have seen our hashtag, #youthvgov, on social media. In the beginning, this hashtag was mostly linked to Juliana v. United States, but it is much more than that. Youth v. Gov represents all of our legal actions where young people are taking on their governments on climate. Youth v. Gov is what we do at Our Children’s Trust--representing and supporting youth in demanding an end to government sanctioned climate destruction and judicial enforcement of their constitutional rights to a safe climate. #Youthvgov has come to reflect both our community and our call to action.
Our Children’s Trust is a nonprofit public interest law firm. We, and the young people we represent and support, together, are #youthvgov.
As we celebrate our 10th year as the world’s only law firm dedicated exclusively to representing youth in climate cases against their governments, all at no cost to them or their families, and as our cases reach some of the highest courts in numerous jurisdictions, we wanted to marry the name of our law firm with the identity of our community. So, from this point forward, you will see us represented together, as both Our Children’s Trust, and as Youth v. Gov, in this new logo and graphic. We hope this representation reflects a new timeless image that speaks to the sustainability and interconnectedness of our work, and the balance of justice and generational stewardship in our collective hands. We’re so proud to unveil it today.
We have new logos for each youth-led case and legal action too, aligned with state and national colors!
We’ve also redesigned many of the pages of our website to make it easier to see the current status of each of our state, federal, and global legal actions, as well as to present a visual timeline of the history of each case. We invite you to check these out on our site today by clicking the links above or by going to www.ourchildrenstrust.org ([link removed]) .
2020 has tested all of us in so many ways. But here at Our Children's Trust, the challenges of this year have led us to becoming even more committed to the urgency of our work. Join our #youthvgov community and help support the youth we represent today - and the youth we’ll support tomorrow - by taking action ([link removed]) and donating now ([link removed]) . Let’s do this together.
In solidarity,
The team at Our Children’s Trust
