Chief Paramedic says 911 EMS consolidation won't hurt response times

In a letter written by Alberta’s Chief Paramedic Darren Sandbeck, he says consolidation of the EMS dispatch service will not cost responders time. The decision was made recently to centralize EMS and 911 dispatch to make the service more cost-efficient.

Guillaume Champagne Raymond était président de notre chapitre québécois, la Corporation des paramédics du Québec. Il était un grand homme qui marquait chaque personne qu'il rencontrait. La paramédecine était une grande passion pour Guillaume et il travaillait sans relâche pour amener l’ordre professionnel des paramédics au Québec.
Afin d’honorer la mémoire de Guillaume, une pièce commémorative a été conçue par son ami Derek Cassista. Cette pièce permettra d’amasser des fonds pour la création d’un fonds d'étude pour ses deux jeunes fils.

In December of 2019, The Paramedic Association of Canada suffered the sudden loss of one of our Directors. Guillaume Champagne Raymond, president of our Quebec chapter, Corporation des Paramedics de Quebec, was a great man who touched every person he met in a special way. Paramedicine was a strong passion for Guillaume, and he worked tirelessly to bring self regulation to Quebec.
In Guillaume's memory, we are offering a challenge coin, designed by his friend Derek Cassista,to raise money for an Education Fund for his 2 young sons.

The Critical Care on the Air Radiothon takes off Wednesday morning on The Eagle 93.5 FM, Country88 and CFAM Radio 950 in Support of STARS Air Ambulance. STARS Development Officer Lori Derksen says this annual radiothon has become very important to them.

21 Nova Scotia paramedics awarded for providing care at personal risk

Nova Scotia says 21 paramedics have been awarded the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal “for their dedication to the health and safety of all Nova Scotians.” The award is given to paramedics who have been able to provide quality care to Nova Scotians in times of need, sometimes at their personal risk, the province said in a release.

Mark Long of Halifax, originally from Kings County, played hockey with the Kentville Wildcats when he was a boy. Guelph paramedics to honour those who have died on the job Friday

Local paramedics will be gathering Friday to remember their colleagues from across the country who have died over the years. According to a post on the city’s website, the Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service will be hosting a “Remember the Fallen” ceremony with the Paramedic Memorial Bell, which has been travelling throughout the province, most recently with the Dufferin County Paramedic Service.

West Kingston to drive paramedic costs in coming years

Growth in the city’s west end, particularly among the seniors population, will continue to drive up paramedic costs in the coming years, according to a set of reports to Frontenac County council. The reports, which outline response time standards and Frontenac Paramedics’ 10-year master plan, projected a 45 per cent increase in demand for EMS in the next decade.

PTSD, trauma amongst first responders focus of new Alberta retreat

A new chapter for many Albertans began on a ranch just outside of Cochrane Saturday. The Wayfinders Wellness Retreat is a new approach to helping those on the frontlines who are suffering from trauma. The Wineglass Ranch will play host to first responders and military veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or operational stress injury (OSI), in an effort to begin their healing process.

Charges laid after backpack stolen from paramedic vehicle

On Sept. 10, 2020, members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Town on Blind River. Shortly after 1:30 p.m., police observed a person known to them carrying a green bag. A short time later this same person was observed carrying a large blue back pack and appeared to be avoiding police. The suspect was later located with no back pack and told police he gave the back pack to a friend.

Paramedics propose rapid-response team to Ontario Health for additional COVID testing

As the demand for COVID-19 testing continues to increase the Chief of Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services says a rapid-response team has been proposed to Ontario Health. Doug Socha told Hastings County council on Thursday with school back in session the assessment centres have seen a 300% increase in the number of people requiring testing.

Paramedics ditching masks and shields for high-tech respirators

The Ottawa Paramedic Service is replacing the disposable N95 face masks and face shields used by paramedics with powered air purifying respirators. The respirators, which consist of a face mask affixed to a helmet with an air hose attached to a filtration unit on a paramedic’s belt, will eliminate the waste of masks and face shields, said Emily Fullarton, public information officer with the Ottawa Paramedic Service.

Kobe Bryant law bans photos of dead by first responders

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new “Kobe Bryant” law that makes it illegal for first responders to shoot unauthorized photos of dead bodies at the scene of accidents and crimes. The law resulted from the aftermath of the helicopter crash that killed NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and eight others on January 26, 2020.

Paramedic mobile flu shot program aims to reach 2,400 Hamiltonians

Hamilton paramedics plan to roll out a mobile flu shot initiative with the added urgency of preventing illness during the coronavirus pandemic. A flu season combined with a second COVID-19 wave makes it especially important for people to be immunized as early as possible, says Mike Sanderson, the city’s EMS chief.

Mobile COVID-19 testing unit making the rounds in Middlesex

Middlesex County residents won’t have to make the drive into London for a COVID-19 test. The Middlesex London Paramedic Service (MLPS) has announced it’s bringing its mobile COVID-19 swabbing unit to six towns through the region over the next two weeks. The decommissioned London Transit bus turned mobile testing facility will make stops in Dorchester, Lucan, Thorndale, Strathroy, Komoka and Ilderton starting Wednesday.
