REPORT: Stimulus Investments in Advanced Energy Sector Would Deliver > $700 Billion to California’s Economy ([link removed] )

AEE released results of a report that quantified significant economic benefits associated with investments in advanced clean energy deployment for the state of California. The report, which was produced by international economics consultant Analysis Group for AEE, used an industry-standard modeling tool to estimate the impact of investing state or federal stimulus funds in advanced energy technologies, products, and services to boost economic activity in the wake of the COVID-19 slowdown. "At a time when California is reeling from the impacts of the coronavirus health crisis and climate change, this report shows investment in advanced energy delivers big, with a seven-fold return to the state’s economy, creating millions of in-state jobs and adding much-needed tax revenues to state and local coffers," said AEE managing director Amisha Rai. Florida Legislative Candidates Hear About Potential for Advanced Energy Growth in EVs, Solar Energy ([link removed] )

Every four years, Americans turn their eyes to Florida as a crucial swing state in presidential elections. Here at AEE, we also pay attention to the election cycle in the Sunshine State, but this year our eyes are on the state legislature. Two years ago, AEE met with gubernatorial contenders from both parties – including the eventual winner, Gov. Ron DeSantis – to tell them about the opportunity of advanced energy for Florida. This year, AEE spent the heat of a Florida summer holding virtual meetings between member companies and candidates running for the state legislature to show how advanced energy can create jobs for the Florida economy, bring consumers more options – whether for solar power or electric vehicles – and lower the cost of energy for businesses and households. FERC Opens the Door for DERs in Wholesale Markets. Now It’s Up to Grid Operators to Bring Them In. ([link removed] )

On September 18, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued Order No. 2222, a long-awaited order setting the stage for aggregations of distributed energy resources (DERs) to participate on a level playing field in the wholesale markets operated by Regional Transmission Organizations and Independent System Operators (RTOs/ISOs). Adoption of these small, flexible, customer-sited resources has proliferated across the United States, primarily driven by customer demand, technology improvement, and falling prices. However, DERs have been largely left out of U.S. wholesale power markets. FERC’s order embraces these market trends and directs RTOs/ISOs to remove market barriers and allow aggregated DERs to compete. That opens the door for new revenue streams for DER owners, new business models for DER aggregators, and new flexibility for the grid. But realizing this potential will depend on how RTOs/ISOs implement the order. Continue reading on the blog here or click below for our explainer, "Opening the Door to DERs." > ([link removed] )

Everything You Wanted To Know About RTOs But Never Could – Until Now ([link removed] )

Recorded on Tuesday, September 29th

Market rules that determine whether and how advanced energy technologies can participate in wholesale electricity markets are largely set by regional grid operators – Regional Transmission Organizations and Independent System Operators (RTOs/ISOs). There are seven of them – CAISO, ERCOT, ISO-NE, MISO, NYISO, PJM & SPP – and each one has its own set of committees, subcommittees, task forces, etc., to come up with these rules, which have major implications for business opportunities in areas like energy storage, renewable energy, demand response, and more. How can advanced energy companies and others who care about advanced energy growth make sense of, keep track of, and have impact on what’s happening at the RTOs? In this webinar, hear how AEE and its member companies are navigating the arcane world of RTOs and learn how you can follow the action at all seven RTOs – with AEE’s PowerSuite platform.

Panelists

- Jeff Dennis, Managing Director and General Counsel, AEE Policy (moderator)
- Eric Fitz, General Manager, AEE PowerSuite
- Suzanne Bertin, Managing Director, Texas Advanced Energy Business Alliance
-

Betty Watson, Senior Director of Policy and Market Design, Modern Energy

Learn all about how RTOs/ISOs can affect your business!
