Dealing with these wildfires is dangerous, expensive, and time-consuming. And the political, financial, and legal hurdles associated with providing aid after wildfire devastation create additional challenges. Senator Steve Daines Seeks Passage of the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) is making a renewed push to address the misuse of conservation donations by passing S.170, the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act. This legislation focuses on a tax incentive created by Congress in 1976 to encourage and facilitate the protection of America’s lands, waters, and wildlife by allowing taxpayers to deduct from their taxable income any charitable donations made for land conservation. It’s Time to Get the Politics Out of Energy Policy as New Polling Show Voters Overwhelmingly Support All-of-the-Above Americans increasingly want politics out of energy policy. They want realistic, responsible solutions—not extreme measures meant to appeal only to partisans. Recent polling conducted by Morning Consult and commissioned by American Petroleum Institute revealed that voters across the political spectrum, including in several “battleground” states, agree on many aspects of energy policy. Other Monthly News Fourth Annual National Clean Energy Week is Successful—And Makes News Too Last week, dozens of elected officials, policymakers, and energy industry experts convened online for the fourth annual National Clean Energy Week <[link removed]> (NCEW). The event usually takes place in Washington, D.C., and it has quickly become one of the most authentically bipartisan events in town. All of this year’s NCEW sessions, including remarks from policymakers as well as expert panels, will be available on the event site on-demand <[link removed]> . ConservAmerica is proud to be a Participating Organization in this annual celebration. A few noteworthy headlines came out of the week’s sessions. Both Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) remain optimistic for the American Energy Innovation Act <[link removed]> passing this year, with Manchin giving it a 75 percent chance. Additionally, Representative Garret Graves (R-LA) announced the introduction of the BUILDER Act <[link removed]> , which would modernize the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and reform its permitting process, as ConservAmerica has called for previously <[link removed]> . REI and National Forest Foundation Announce New Partnership to Plant One Million Trees A new partnership between the National Forest Foundation (NFF) and REI Co-op (REI) will plant one million trees in national forests across the U.S. over the next decade. Each project will prioritize immediate reforestation to restore ecosystems adversely impacted by severe wildfire, pests, diseases, blowdown, or other natural disturbances. These efforts will help protect the vital benefits that our national forests provide, including carbon sequestration, clean air and water, and wildlife habitat.
