Announcing our
New Research Grants
As the largest private funder of suicide prevention research, each year, AFSP helps lead the way in discovering new ways to save lives. Today, we are thrilled to announce 37 new research grants totaling $4.9 million that AFSP is funding. These research projects were awarded to researchers from across the world who focus their work on studies that help us learn more about suicide and how to prevent it.
The applications we received this year are of such high quality that we decided to fund more studies this year than we ever have before. The research priority areas for the 2020-2022 grant funding cycles are suicide prevention within underrepresented racial and ethnic communities and the evaluation of technological tools for suicide prevention. This year’s focus on diversity is a part of AFSP’s larger commitment to addressing the disparity in mental health care access. With the vast array of untested technological tools available for suicide prevention, the second priority area aims to provide guidance for the selection of effective technological suicide prevention tools.
We would especially like to thank the many members of our AFSP family whose small individual donations make this funding possible, and the researchers who dedicate their lives to understanding and preventing suicide.
