Dear John: While the situation with the Supreme Court is urgent, we must repeat the urgency of everyone exercising their right and obligation to vote in this election. With added precautions for COVID-19, we continue to advise on how to vote early, by absentee or mail, or even safely distanced and masked on November 3rd. Take action now with PFLAG Votes 2020, and our four pillars in service of the Election. REGISTRATION State voter registration deadlines are coming up quickly. Find your state's deadline here and check your registration status. PFLAG members also include U.S. military servicemembers overseas and their voting-eligible dependents; here’s how to register to vote and cast your ballot. EDUCATION Know how to vote. Leave nothing to chance; every vote counts. See changes in your state’s absentee and mail-in voting procedures in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Easily scroll down the alphabetical list, find your state, and see up-to-date status of absentee and mail-in voting dates and procedures so you don’t miss your open window to vote. Know what's on your ballot. MOBILIZATION Research shows that people who make a plan to vote are nine percent more likely to vote. Make a voting plan; encourage your family and friends to make one, too. Then get everyone to use social media to share that they’re voting and their reason for voting. It’s right on the placard with the voting plan. Here’s how to take the PFLAG seven-day 2020 Vote Plan Challenge. It’s easy; it’s fun; it’s effective. Be sure to check our PFLAG Votes minivideos showcasing PFLAGers talking about why THEY are voting. PROTECTION People who are in good health and at low-risk to contract COVID-19 are invited to help protect voters by staffing their local polling location, volunteering to be a local poll worker. The National Association of Secretaries of State offers an easy-to-use guide to become a poll worker in your polling location. And, if you live in or have friends in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Texas, check out this voter protection initiative from the Poor People’s Campaign, Forward Justice and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. |
