Executive Directors Message
Our friends, the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA), have won a major court case despite well-financed opposition from Everytown and Never Again California, two of the Bloomberg front groups. The Del Mar Fairgrounds adopted an anti-gun policy that blocked gun shows at
their facility. The CRPA, Second Amendment Foundation, the South Bay Rod and Gun Club and several individual plaintiffs sought an injunction to prevent the Del Mar Fairgrounds from enforcing their anti-gun position. Last week, Judge Cathy Bencivengo issued a preliminary injunction against the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The Del Mar Fairgrounds serves San Diego County California.
The CRPA is also challenging, in court, California’s new ammunition background check system. The CRPA is a co-plaintiff with the NRA and Olympic shooter Kim Rhode. Calguns, another California Gun Rights organization, and the Second Amendment Foundation have filed suit against the ban of sales of firearms to 18-20-year-old citizens. There are a few exceptions for those in the military. New York City is squirming like a worm on a fish hook over the New York Rifle and Pistol Association’s (NYSRPA) and the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) lawsuit against their incredibly cruel requirements and treatment of law-abiding gun owners. It seems that after the Supreme Court of the United States refused to honor the city’s request to drop the case, they have decided to modify the ordinance. This is an attempt to moot the case but I don’t think it will work. New York City is on the hook for their ordnance. If the case is dropped and there is no court order, New York City will just go back to doing what they did before. That is how these jerks operate. All of these draconian laws clearly have nothing to do with fighting crime but are an attack on the private ownership of firearms. All of these laws stem from Michael Bloomberg, the sugar daddy of Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety and a plethora of local anti-gun front groups. State groups like the CRPA, Calguns, NYSRPA and the ISRA are critical in fighting these attempts to destroy the Second Amendment. In Illinois, the so-called Fix the FOID, SB1966, is another example of Bloomberg and his front organizations in action. Some of you may have noticed movement on SB1966 but this was just to put the bill back into the Assignments Committee in the Senate. We are keeping an eye on it. These attacks will not stop. Gun owners need to join the ISRA and get in the fight. The National Matches are underway at Camp Perry, Ohio; Bristol, Indiana, and Camp Atterbury, Indiana. The National Matches were established to promote marksmanship among the United States Armed Forces and civilians. In 1903, state associations were established to train civilians prior to serving in the military. The Illinois State Rifle Association was among the first of these organizations. President Theodore Roosevelt knew the decrepit state of marksmanship in the United States Military. He established these state associations to become bastions of marksmanship skills. Roosevelt knew the civilians would carry on these skills from generation to generation. He was correct. Members of the Illinois State Rifle Association are now on the way to participate in the National Matches both as individuals and as team members. I appreciate their dedication. Last year we did very well. It is with great regret that I report the death of Claude T. Heale. Claude was a former Director of the ISRA, served on the Audit Committee, Facilities Committee and was Chairman of the Tuesday Night Irregular Rifle League for several years. Claude was a dedicated Life Member of the ISRA. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, July 20th, at 1:30pm until the time of Service at 2:00pm at the Hickey Memorial Chapel (442 E Lincoln Highway) in New Lenox, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of donor’s choice. Thanks for being a member.
