October 2020

MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
Hello AdvOCAtes,

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival for those who celebrate!

With the Census 2020 Deadline pushed to October 5 (this date may be subject to change), there is still time to be counted! Make sure you, your family, friends, and community complete the Census at my2020census.gov; it only takes 5-10 minutes.

We released our state voter toolkits for the 2020 General Election on National Voter Registration Day. These toolkits are meant to serve as guides to navigate voter registration, voter ID information, and voting during COVID-19. They contain resources from your Secretaries of State, Departments of State, or Election Boards in addition to information from other voting nonprofit organizations. This year is a presidential election; we encourage everyone to be active in their local communities by registering to vote if eligible, and learning about which initiatives and candidates are on your ballots. Reply to this email for more GOTV resources!

IRS Tax Help graphics and links

The Tax Outreach, Partnership and Education (TOPE) folks with the IRS have graciously shared tax information, infographics, and links with OCA. We have a folder of infographics of important tax dates and information that you and your communities can use. Some important things to remember:
  • Stay on the lookout for IRS impersonating social media accounts that may put you at risk
  • In many social media scams, people are fooled into believing the message is from a trusted source
  • Don’t click on links in posts or DMs pretending to be from the IRS. Check first that you are following the real IRS
  • The IRS doesn't spontaneously contact you by email, text message or DM to ask for personal or financial information (i.e. credit and debit card numbers, social security number, etc.)
  • Some scams use fake IRS social media pages to steal your money. For your tax security and identity protection, be sure to follow the real IRS
  • The IRS will NOT demand payment over social media.
If you would like more IRS Tax information resources, please contact OCA Communications Associate Eiley Fong at [email protected]
