October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
5 Ways to Take Action
This year, Doorways' DVAM is going virtual! Participate in virtual events, wear purple for Purple Thursday, learn and share critical info about domestic violence, and more!
How to Advocate for Victims and Survivors of Domestic Violence During Coronavirus
"With the spread of the new coronavirus, domestic violence rates have surged worldwide, including here in the United States. If you've ever considered getting involved in the fight against domestic violence, now is the time."
Support Available to Survivors in Arlington
Doorways provides a spectrum of life-saving, supportive, and educational services to help survivors overcome domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of interpersonal violence. Domestic Violence News
26 years in, the Violence Against Women Act hangs in limbo — while COVID-19 fuels domestic violence surge
"Right when more services are needed, they're [at risk], and that’s a problem."
A double plague: Coronavirus and domestic violence
"For untold numbers of women and children around the globe, the coronavirus pandemic has meant a twofold threat: The risk of catching a deadly virus coupled with the peril of being locked in confined spaces with increasingly violent abusers."
The coronavirus is making it harder for domestic violence victims to find a place to live, a study shows
"The ways in which social isolation has limited survivors' access to family members, community members, childcare systems have closed, education isn't fully available in person, there's a lack of jobs available -- it's always been an issue, but the financial and educational impact of Covid-19 has made it much worse."
