Hello John,

Today marks the start of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Every year, more than 10 million men and women in the United States fall victim to domestic abuse. What’s more, a new Rutgers University study found that the coronavirus pandemic has led to a surge in gender-based violence.

Joe Biden sparked a massive national effort to combat domestic violence when he introduced the Violence Against Women Act in 1994 -- a historic legislative initiative that has introduced more than $7 billion in federal grants to fund programs that prevent sexual assault and domestic violence, and expand rehabilitation resources for victims.

The crucial legislation had been reauthorized every four years, but last year the Republican-controlled Senate refused to bring the reauthorization bill to a vote after the National Rifle Association complained that it would “negatively affect NRA ratings.” And now, the bill is stuck on Mitch McConnell’s desk.

Joe Biden has pledged to strengthen and expand the Violence Against Women Act within his first 100 days in office if elected. But with just about 4 weeks left to go until the election and an increasingly narrow race, we need to stand together to ensure he gets that chance. Today we need to know:

Do you approve of Joe Biden?
