Dear Friend,
You’ve been an incredible force for good, and for change, to the people in my District, and so I wanted to reach out tonight to say thank you.
Thank you on behalf of every disenfranchised voter in the Bootheel; thank you from every LGBTQ+ individual who remains closeted and afraid to be out, to be themselves, for fear of violence and ridicule; and thank you on behalf of the working families in my part of Missouri who have seen our small towns slowly decline, their wages erode, and the jobs and opportunities disappear that once made their neighborhoods great places to live.
I suspect that you, like me, are not in this fight for abstract reasons. You aren’t dedicated to Democratic campaigns or progressive ideals like a living wage, universal healthcare, or racial equity because they sound nice. You probably share my feeling that these ideas are at the core of who we are as a society, that pursuing them would make life better for every American person—and that embracing diversity makes us stronger as a nation.
At the end of the day, this isn’t about who’s up and who’s down, or Democrat or Republican—it should only and always be about improving people’s lives in real, tangible ways. But if you want to change politics, you have to change the politicians.
I am ready to lead a genuine revival in my community, to make life better for all and to restore the integrity of what it means to be a Democrat. If you can help me do that, I won’t forget the support and kindness you have showed me—and all of my constituents—throughout this campaign: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ellis2020
