I want to tell you about the 7 incredible candidates we’re trying to elect this November – Julie Gunnigle, George Gascón, Eric Reinhart, Jos´ Garza, Delia Garza, Monique Warell and Kim Gardner.

Real Justice

John,

I want to tell you about the 7 reform champions we’re trying to elect for local Prosecutor  positions this November – Julie Gunnigle, George Gascón, Eric Reinhart, José Garza, Delia Garza, Monique Warell and Kim Gardner.

In just a moment, I’ll talk more about these candidates and why these elections are critical in the fight to transform our criminal justice systems.

After you’re done reading, will you make a donation to fund Real Justice’s election work? We’re racing to hit a $135,000 quarterly goal by midnight tonight to make sure our team has the funds to support these candidates’ campaigns.

All 7 of these candidates have a chance to win and bring true transformative change to our legal systems. Some are up against heavily funded opponents and we know that the challenges they face will only get more difficult the closer we get to November.

That is why it’s so important that we show up and show out for these leaders for reform. If we want them to fight for us in office, we need to fight for them right now and make sure they have the support they need to win their elections.

George Gascón is running for District Attorney of Los Angeles, CA to reduce mass-incarceration in one of one of the largest jail systems in the country. Under current DA Jacky Lacey, Los Angeles County alone is responsible for one third of all incarcerated people in California. This one of the most important DA races in the nation.

Julie Gunnigle is running for County Attorney in Maricopa County, AZ. Arizona has the fourth-highest incarceration rate in the country in part from the legacy of Maricopa’s notorious racist, anti-immigrant tyrant, Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Eric Reinhart is a former public defender and defense attorney running for State’s Attorney of Lake County, Illinois. He’s in a tough race and will need significant grassroots support to defeat the incumbent Republican Michael Nerheim, and transform the justice system from the inside out.

José Garza is running to be the next District Attorney of Travis County, TX. A former state and federal public defender, immigrant rights activist, attorney and current Co-Executive Director of Workers Defense Project in Austin, TX, he’ll bring justice to communities of color, working families, and immigrant communities.

Delia Garza is running for County Attorney in Travis County, TX. With a long record of progressive public service and reforming systems, Delia will be a passionate activist to improve the lives of working people in Austin.

Monique Warrell is a brilliant and brave long-time justice activist running for State Attorney in Orange County, FL. After winning her primary in August, she’s on track to become one of the single most important leaders and voices in the nation when it comes to radically changing the justice and legal system.

Kim Gardner resoundingly won a tough primary in August in her re-election campaign for Circuit Attorney in St. Louis, MO. Kim has been an incredibly effective and bold advocate for justice. I’ve said she may be the most hated Black woman in America by Trump and others who want to maintain our systems of mass incarceration and police violence. Even as she’s expected to be reelected in November, we’ve had to spring to Kim’s defense multiple times over the last two months as the Missouri Governor and State House of Representatives have made brazen attempts to strip her power and her position.

Can you make a contribution to Team Real Justice so we can continue supporting these 7 transformative candidates and more like them? Now more than ever, these are the leaders we need in office to transform our broken legal systems.

Your friend and brother,

Shaun King
