• 1st to welcome refugees by making the whole ACT a refugee welcome zone in 2015
• 1st to legislate for civil unions in 2006 and marriage equality in 2013 
• 1st to elect a LGBITQ+ head of government (that’s me)

These achievements have helped pave the way for other States and Territories, and for Australia.
