The Fight Ahead to Protect RBG's Legacy and Defend the American Way

[link removed]

While the nation mourns the passing of the iconic and incomparable Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, President Trump and Senate Republicans have already laid out their plans to fast track their nominee through in a record and norm-shattering pace.

We know a lot about the nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, and the disastrous implications it would have for progressive values we have spent decades fighting for - and defending. Since her nomination, PFAW has released a new report, "Confirmed Fears: The Judicial Record of Amy Coney Barrett," which outlines her troubling record on seven central topics that are jeopardized with her potential confirmation.

During the First Presidential Debate Trump Blows the Loudest Racist Dog Whistle Yet

The question should’ve been an easy one. At the first debate between the major-party presidential candidates Tuesday night, Fox News host Chris Wallace asked President Donald Trump whether he would denounce white supremacists; instead of offering an unequivocal “No,” Trump told the Proud Boys hate group to “stand back and stand by.”

Amid an already turbulent year, any semblance of normalcy and decency seemed to evaporate during the summer of 2020: The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to ravage the United States, which continues to reach grim milestones. Systemic racism and police violence in law enforcement have tragically claimed the lives and livelihood of too many Black people. And the USPS has been undermined by Trump megadonor and USPS Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in a corrupt ploy to interfere in the November election.

Given these multiple crises, it’s an understatement to say that our country and our people are hurting. But Republicans in the Senate are not focused on addressing any of those urgent needs. Instead, their top priority has been to process even more of Trump’s troubling judicial nominees.

Ben Jealous Op-Ed: "Black Voters are Top Targets of Voter Suppression 'Information Warfare'"

Black voters have a powerful role to play in this year’s elections. That’s why they are being targeted by disinformation campaigns that are meant to discourage and suppress our turnout. We can’t let them succeed.

Black voters are still targeted by old-school voter suppression strategies like restricting registration, closing polling stations, and limiting early voting. On top of all that, we are now top targets in “information warfare” campaigns designed to drive down Black turnout by any means possible.

Trump’s Lies Continue Causing Unnecessary Deaths

On September 22, the United States hit the grim milestone of 200,000 American deaths due to COVID-19. But despite the magnitude of this toll, Donald Trump continues to minimize the pandemic. On September 21, he argued that “it affects virtually nobody” – a lie that is even more dangerous, as the fate of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) hangs in the balance after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
