BIG UPDATE! Politico reports that the Commission on Presidential Debates will announce new measures shortly to provide "additional structure" to the debate format "to ensure a more orderly discussion."

Barely 12 hours after we launched our emergency petition, the Commission is responding to our pressure. Thousands of people have signed our petition, hundreds more are Tweeting directly to the Commission, and media from the American Prospect to Salon are reporting on our debate response and our call to "CUT THE MIC" if a candidate interrupts or speaks when it's not their turn.

But the Commission has not yet announced what changes will be made or how effective they'll be. So we're keeping the pressure on.

SIGN THE PETITION to the Commission on Presidential Debates: "In the next debates, you must CUT THE MIC when it's not a candidate's turn to speak to control the situation and allow the debate to go forward." Sign here.

After you sign, you'll be able to Tweet directly to the debate organizers -- or Tweet to them now here.

Then, forward this email to others so they can add their voice to "CUT THE MIC!"

Immediately after the debate ended last night, we shared what some people were already saying about the debate disaster:

ROBERT GIBBS, FORMER OBAMA WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: "We need to hear tomorrow from the Presidential Commission on Debates. They must outline a plan for how this is going to work going forward including cutting off mics for interrupting. 2020 is far too important to have two more episodes of that. Because that was not a debate."

JAKE TAPPER, CNN ANCHOR: "That was a hot mess. Inside a dumpster fire. Inside a train wreck. That was the worst debate I have ever seen. It wasn't even a debate. It was a disgrace. And it's primarily because of President Trump."

DAVID AXELROD, FORMER OBAMA SENIOR ADVISOR: Next debate, moderator has to cut mics.

Now, we're keeping the pressure on and asking everyone to SIGN THE PETITION to the Commission on Presidential Debates: "In the next debates, you must CUT THE MIC when it's not a candidate's turn to speak to control the situation and allow the debate to go forward."

Then, please Tweet to the Commission on Presidential Debates directly here. And forward this email to others!
