Dear Friend, In last night's debate, Donald Trump said outright that he "can't go along with" an election decided with mail-in ballots.1 This is after Trump called for all mail-in ballots to be discarded—and said when it comes to transfer of power after the election, "there won't be a transfer, frankly. There'll be a continuation."2 He's not just blowing smoke: Inside sources say that Trump allies are already developing a strategy to have electoral college delegates ignore election results by creating a fake fraud scandal around vote-by-mail.3 Trump already laid the groundwork in a tweet saying that the Nov. 3 election result “MAY NEVER BE ACCURATELY DETERMINED.”4 Add to all this evidence Trump’s obvious admiration of dictators and dictatorships, and our democracy could be hanging by a thin thread by January 20, 2021. Media outlets don't call the race, but Trump claims victory based on the votes that *have* been counted. And even if Biden pulls ahead, Trump won't budge. We could be just weeks away from the greatest constitutional crisis in 150 years. That's just one of many scenarios defenders of democracy and our allies in Congress are gaming out now, and determining how to fight back. One of the first and most important steps: push senators to use all available tools to block the confirmation of Trump's Supreme Court nominee. At last night's debate Trump again said he is "counting on" the Supreme Court to help him after the election. Trump may wish otherwise, but America is not a dictatorship. We're preparing to use all the levers of power in our democratic institutions to ensure a peaceful transition of power. Will you chip in to demand Trump accept the results of the Nov. 3 election?
