John,

What we witnessed last night during the presidential debate was damaging to our country and our democracy, and also profoundly sad. The President’s chaotic yelling and interruptions, dangerous lies about voting fraud, insults to Joe Biden’s family, and refusal to denounce white supremacy was a travesty.

What’s worse is Carolyn is running against a Republican who refuses to speak up and call this abysmal behavior what it is: wrong.

It further goes to show the critical importance of respectful, substantive debate on the issues that matter. Southwest Washingtonians are owed that by candidates running for office at every level, from the presidency to our race for the 3rd congressional district.

Today, we’re not just facing our last FEC quarterly fundraising deadline, but we’re now just ten days away from the official debate between Carolyn Long and her opponent Jaime Herrera Beutler.

This debate comes after Carolyn challenged her opponent to debate over a month ago, and when we heard crickets from the Herrera Beutler camp, folks like you stood with Carolyn and built the pressure to hear both candidates talk about the issues that matter to Southwest Washington. While Carolyn challenged her to three debates, Herrera Beutler only agreed to one, so we’ve got to make it count.

Finally, we’ll hear from both candidates directly about the issues that matter to Southwest Washington, like the COVID-19 crisis, the attacks on our health care and rising prices of prescription drugs, and so much more.

You know where Carolyn stands: she’s ready to defend the Affordable Care Act from attacks in Congress, lower the cost of prescription drugs, and make health care more accessible and affordable for everyone by passing a public option. Not only that, but she released a plan to specifically help the 3rd district recover from the COVID-19 crisis.

Meanwhile, we know Herrera Beutler has taken nearly $1.7 million from corporate PACs and lobbyists like Big Pharma. That’s why she’s voted more than 80 times to repeal health care coverage for millions of Americans and remove protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

As Carolyn prepares for this debate, it’s critical that we reach our end-of-quarter goal tonight before our fundraising numbers go public. What we raise today will help us keep our ads on the air, reach voters and so much more in this final month to Election Day.

So, if you’re in a position to do so, can you pitch in $10 or more to help us hit our goal and have the resources to Flip the 3rd on November 3rd and send Carolyn to be an independent voice for Southwest Washington in Congress? Time is running out!
