This is chilling, John. Just last week, the Proud Boys descended on Portland, Oregon, equipped with AR-15s and body armor in an attempt to intimidate racial justice protesters. After last night’s debate, members of the Proud Boys responded immediately, celebrating the mention and assuring Trump they are at the ready. They even updated their logo with the president’s words.
Trump’s own acting Secretary of Homeland Security said this month that violent white supremacists pose the “most persistent and lethal threat” to our country. We cannot let this hate take hold. Help fund our fight to root out hate-fueled violence.
At the Alliance, we have worked tirelessly to disarm hate. In just the last year, we have championed legislation to compel judges to consider hate-based threats when issuing Extreme Risk Protection Orders, worked with Governor Inslee on a 10-point plan to combat white supremacy, and organized events for community members and partners to address the intersection of hate and gun violence. And we are fighting harder than ever to elect candidates up and down the ballot who have the courage and decency to not only condemn white supremacy but fight to root it out.
As we stare down the final days of the most consequential and contentious election of our lifetimes, this work is only growing more important. Please, give what you can today to help us keep fighting to disarm hate.
Sincerely,
Renée (she/her)
