In a moment, I am going to ask you to split a donation between Ben Ray Luján's race for Senate in New Mexico and my campaign before tonight's official FEC deadline. Will you give me a chance to explain why this is so important?
President Trump's behavior at last night's debate was an insult to the American people, and it is more clear than ever that we need to take back the Senate.
A lot of folks know about the big races where we can flip a seat. But ending McConnell's reign requires a bit of defense too -- including holding the open Senate seat in New Mexico.
And there's no better candidate to do that than Rep. Ben Ray Luján. He's a good friend and the highest-ranking Latino in the history of the House. He will be a critical voice to turn back President Trump's racist anti-immigrant policies in the Senate, and he's also a true believer in campaign finance reform and voting rights.
Just this month, the first outside Republican PAC waded into the race with six figures worth of attack ads against Ben Ray, and the Associated Press reported that this is a "race expected to draw millions of outside Super PAC spending." So we need to make sure Ben Ray has the resources to fight back:

Look, this is one of about three seats that Republicans are looking at to try to expand their majority, and Ben Ray needs our help to fend them off.
His opponent is a former weatherman who was handpicked by McConnell because they thought he had the best chance of winning. And he's been well-funded so far.
After this deadline, Ben Ray and his opponent will publicly report their fundraising numbers. This is the biggest deadline of the entire campaign, and with almost no public polling in the state, these reports are one of the few indicators for how competitive this race will be.
If Republicans look at the numbers and think Ben Ray looks vulnerable, then they could decide to dump millions more than they had already planned into the state at the last minute. This could be trouble for our path back to the Senate majority.
That's why your donation before tonight's FEC deadline is so important. So I'm asking:

The path to the Senate majority is narrow, and there's no room for error. If we lose this race, then McConnell will keep the majority. So let's do everything we can to make sure we hold this seat in New Mexico.
