Did you watch the presidential debate last night? For the first time in twelve
years, US presidential candidates were finally asked about climate change.

The result: Biden shined, Trump floundered.

It's clear that climate change is Trump's weakness. Thousands of Americans are suffering from catastrophic climate events, and
concern is at an all-time high. What's Trump's answer? Rolling back protections
left and right. We can't let Trump off the hook. We must demand that every
debate moderator continue pressing the candidates for the highest office of our
country on the most important issue of our lifetime.

Sign this petition and demand that EVERY upcoming presidential and
vice-presidential debate discuss climate change.

When millions of people across the country suffer untold losses from fires,
storms, floods and droughts in this year alone — what does Trump have to say about it? "I want crystal clean water and air."
Well, we want Trump out of office right now, but wishing something to be true
doesn't mean it will happen!

As president, Trump has exacerbated the nightmare scenarios brought on by
climate change at every turn. His legacy is marred by over 100 cuts to
environmental regulations, giveaways and tax cuts to fossil fuel companies, and
the complete abdication of US leadership on addressing the climate crisis on the
global stage. The Trump Administration’s response to the real crisis we face is
to pretend it doesn’t exist and the contrast with candidate Biden couldn’t be
greater.

Demand with us that the moderators of all subsequent debates addressed the
climate crisis.

This past month, we watched with horror as the West Coast experienced its worst
fire season ever recorded. Over 5 million acres burned, at least 30 lives cut
short, thousands of buildings destroyed, and millions exposed to a blanket of
hazardous smoke for weeks. Sadly, fires are not the only tragedy upending our
lives. All corners of our country are breaking climate catastrophe records.
According to NASA, flooding has increased five-fold along the Atlantic and Gulf
coasts since 2000, while in other parts of the country, an estimated 53 million
people are living in areas affected by drought. And with still two month to go,
this hurricane season has already named 23 storms, roughly double of an average
season.

Undecided voters need an opportunity to fully grasp the contrast between the
candidates on how these disasters will be addressed.

Demand that the climate crisis is addressed at every single presidential and
vice-presidential debate.

At CCAN Action Fund, we listen to the world’s top scientists. We know we are
running out of time to address the underlying causes of a warming planet. That’s
why we are 100% behind Joe Biden.

Biden understands the urgency to act now. He will not turn his back on the
plight of the millions of Americans living in a climate catastrophe, especially
low-income Black and Brown communities who have suffered the worst effects of
global warming. He has pledged to spend $2 trillion over the next four years to
rapidly move our transportation, energy and building sectors into a clean energy
economy. He has the most substantive presidential platform ever to aggressively
achieve an emission-free power sector by 2035. His plan is in line with the
science. And he has vowed to rebuild our economy in a way that protects people
and the planet.

Look, there only are two more presidential debates and one vice-presidential
debate before the election. We need you to help us bring this urgency to
undecided voters. There’s just too much at stake.

Take a minute and sign this petition. Demand that the climate crisis is a
central theme in all of the upcoming debates.
