Dear NRDC Action Fund Activist,
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a giant of the Supreme Court. She was an inspiration to legal scholars and women.
And she stands in the greatest possible contrast to Donald Trump. Every day, Trump takes another swipe at the pillars of our democracy.
It is no surprise to anyone that I am not a fan of Donald Trump. He pretends that racism and police brutality don't exist. He believes that scientists have ulterior motives, and he says that climate change is a hoax. His words as president matter, but his recklessness has made this a dangerous time in this nation.
And now, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell want to force through Justice Ginsburg's replacement, even as this election is already underway. This is disgraceful — the next Supreme Court justice should be chosen by the next president. So I'm standing with the NRDC Action Fund to do everything we can to defeat Donald Trump this November.
This election is too critical to sit out. Please, join me and help the NRDC Action Fund reach their $65,000 goal by September 30 — so they can do everything they can in these final critical weeks before Election Day to stop Trump. Even $5 makes a difference.
We have experienced four years of unprecedented damage and heartache across our country — from the pandemic to the worsening of racial inequality to climate-related disasters.
COVID-19 remains an emergency that has claimed more than 200,000 lives — the magnitude of which was completely avoidable. Trump knew how deadly the virus was back in February — but instead of taking it seriously, listening to scientists, and protecting the lives of the people he claims to represent, Trump downplayed the risks and used the crisis as cover to push his own dangerous agenda.
And even as we continue to grapple with this pandemic, Trump is offering up our environment to the fossil fuel industry on a silver platter while trying to steal the election right from under our noses.
He recently opened Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to devastating oil and gas drilling. He stripped away the policy that required evaluating environmental and health impacts of federal projects. All the while, devastating wildfires are ravaging the West, including my state of California, and extreme weather is tearing through the Midwest and the Southeast.
On top of all this, he is also trying to make it harder to vote safely, both in person and by mail.
The collective weight of all this damage — from COVID-19 to the climate crisis to the inability to vote — is disproportionally borne by Black, Indigenous, and communities of color. This is not a coincidence. It's also not acceptable, and we won't stand for such injustices any longer.
The NRDC Action Fund is giving it their all to defeat Trump and elect Joe Biden and other climate champions who will put our health and the planet's health first. For our future's sake, November 3 needs to be the beginning of the end of the Trump administration.
Will you join me and support the NRDC Action Fund with a gift of $5 or more to put our environment, common sense, and common decency first on Election Day? Every dollar will help us reach our all-important goal of $65,000 by September 30.
This election is now a stark choice between a democracy and authoritarianism. Climate change is on the ballot. Our health is on the ballot. And now, the future of the Supreme Court is on the ballot. Every single one of us must make a plan and vote as early as possible.
I want to be able to sleep at night and not dread what I'll see or hear the next day — and I'm sure you do too. We must care about the facts, the planet, and each other. And we must make Trump a one-term president.
Thank you for anything you're able to do to help.
Sincerely,
Barbra Streisand
