Ady Barkan is a hero. Here's how we help him.

John,

Yesterday we sent an email from Ady Barkan, announcing his new movement-building strategy to get his new book on the best-seller list.

If you've been watching Ady in the past two years, from confronting Sen. Jeff Flake on an airplane about Trumpcare, to occupying Senate office lobbies during the Kavanaugh fight, you've not only seen inspiring activism, but traced his physical decline due to ALS. Ady is literally giving his last breath to fight the corporate takeover of our democracy.

I can't wait to read my copy of Eyes to the Wind. Reserve yours today by donating $25 to Social Security Works!

Thanks,

Linda Benesch

--Yesterday's Email--

John,

Ady Barkan is in and out of the hospital, with advanced ALS, but he hasn’t let that slow down his political organizing.

Ady’s determination has made him a progressive champion in some of the Trump era’s biggest fights―Trumpcare, the tax scam, and Kavanaugh. The organization he founded, Be A Hero, inspires all of us to work a little harder for justice every day.

Ady may not have much time left, but he’s built a legacy that won’t be forgotten. His new memoir, Eyes to the Wind, comes out next week. But he’s offering a select number at a discount to supporters of the organizations who have stood beside him.

Today, if you donate $25 or more to Social Security Works you’ll receive a copy of Ady Barkan’s memoir Eyes to the Wind: A Memoir of Love and Death, Hope and Resistance. Proceeds will go toward our work demanding leaders fix our broken health care system now.

Read Ady’s email below and then donate $25 or more today to receive a copy of his new book.

Together, we’ll place Ady’s book on the bestseller list, and we’re sending a powerful message to Ady and the world that his work will live on.

John -- Three years ago, when my doctor told us that I had ALS, it shattered the idyllic life that Rachael and I had built together. A beautiful infant son, a home in the Santa Barbara paradise. A fulfilling job in the progressive movement. I was 32, and I was about to lose it all.

I faced so many wrenching decisions. But two loomed largest: How should I spend the time I had left? And what did I want to leave behind for Carl, for our movement?

Since then, I have tried to answer the first question by fighting for social justice and America’s democracy, hopefully in a way that will make my son proud. And I have answered the second, in part, by writing a memoir. It’s called Eyes to the Wind: A Memoir of Love and Death, Hope and Resistance and you can get a hardcover copy by donating $25 or more to Social Security Works.

Even though I’ve lost the ability to speak with my vocal chords, I’ve poured my heart into writing this book and making sure my family’s story is heard. I hope it can be a valuable resource for our movement. And I hope that my son Carl can one day read it and be glad I wrote it.

In the book, I share how living with ALS has reaffirmed my commitment to activism and look back on my early days working in social justice. I also share the highs and lows of starting a family while dealing with terminal illness. The book will be released on September 10th with a foreword by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of my heroes!

If you’re interested in reading the book and learning more about my story, please make a $25 donation or more to Social Security Works and we’ll send you a copy in the mail.

In solidarity and gratitude,

Ady Barkan
