Demand Facebook turn off the group recommendation feature.

We’re calling on Facebook to shut off its group recommendation feature ahead of the 2020 presidential election, and this is why:

-- Let’s say you’re an undecided voter, so you join a Facebook group called “Undecided Voters with Tom.”

-- Facebook’s algorithm recommends you join Tom’s other group, “Tom’s Meme Page for Undecided Tweens.”

-- Before you know it, you’re bombarded with Facebook group recommendations, including a group called “Stalwart Defenders of American Truth.” Intrigued, you join the group … which ends up being a violent white supremacist militia group where members are discussing how they plan to intervene in the 2020 election.

This is how Facebook’s group recommendation feature works -- and Facebook knows it. Their own research showed that “64% of all extremist group joins are due to our recommendation tools.”

With the election coming up in just over a month, it’s more important now than ever for Facebook to take action to stop its dangerous group recommendations feature.

Join us and the Mozilla Foundation in demanding that Facebook stop group recommendations until the U.S. election results are certified.
