Dear John,

By now we’ve all heard about President Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court. It is very clear that the road to confirmation will be a challenge for Judge Barrett and her family, as those who are opposed to her appointment have both historically and recently been vocal about their opposition to her since she was first nominated to the federal judiciary in 2017.

Many of you are familiar with the attacks she endured during her confirmation hearing for her appointment to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, including Senator Diane Feinstein’s attack on her as a person of faith, stating to Judge Barrett during the hearing, “the dogma lives loudly within you.” This comment is precisely why the Supreme Court needs to confirm Judge Barrett, to guard and protect against the Congressional overreach by progressive legislators that believe that the American people must check their faith at the door before working in the public square.

Here are five reasons (and there are more) why Amy Coney Barrett should be confirmed by the Senate to serve on the United States Supreme Court, along with an opportunity to make your voice known to those legislators who will be participating in the confirmation process by signing the petition at prolifecourt.com

  • First, Amy Coney Barret has a judicial record that indicates her support for the most vulnerable, at all stages of life, from the unborn to the elderly. We need a majority in the Supreme Court that will no longer dismiss challenges to archaic laws and policies that devalue life, are inconsistent with modern medicine and science, and harm innocent women and children.
  • Second, Amy Coney Barrett has a judicial record proving of her respect for the United States Constitution and its application to the law. She embraces the same philosophy as her mentor, for whom she also clerked, Justice Antonin Scalia, stating "A judge must apply the law as written. Judges are not policy makers and must be resolute in setting aside any policy views they might hold." The court needs another justice that will refuse the temptation of legislating from the bench.
  • Third, Amy Coney Barrett is an accomplished legal professional and jurist. She graduated number one in her class from the University of Notre Dame Law school, worked in private practice in Washington D.C., and was a law professor at both George Washington Law School and Notre Dame, prior to her appointment on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. In addition, a majority of the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary gave Amy Coney Barrett a “well qualified” rating when she was nominated to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Fourth, character counts. Amy Coney Barrett is a wife, a mother of seven, and is well respected by her close friends and legal colleagues. Her personal character has been described as loyal, kind, caring and compassionate. One of the most extraordinary testimonies I’ve read was an article published in First Things, by one of her former law students and mentees, who went on to be the first blind person to clerk at the United States Supreme Court – The article can be found here.
  • Fifth, she is person of faith…and that’s ok! Quite literally, the “religious test” within Article VI of the United States Constitution was not written to preclude religious people from serving in public office. People of faith should not be disqualified from working in the public square simply for adhering to personal convictions or religious beliefs. That is simply unconstitutional! Indeed, Judge Barret has already successfully demonstrated a clear ability to maintain her personal opinions while competently discharging her judicial duties.

This Supreme Court nomination will have an impact not only in the near future, but for generations to come. Your voice counts! Let it be heard and sign the petition at prolifecourt.com to encourage all members of the U.S. Senate to quickly confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court.
