We are just days away from the delivery of the 2020-21 Federal Budget, which will focus on Australia's COVID recovery.
As Industry Minister, I am committed to transforming Australia's manufacturing sector - to create jobs and secure our sovereignty.
Right here on the Gold Coast we have some terrific manufacturers who have a positive outlook for the rest of 2020 and into 2021.
At Leina & Fleur in Burleigh, they found that their Australian made model enabled continued growth through unprecedented times. Through support from the Federal government, the clothing manufactuer plans to increase an element of their in-house manufacturing.
The owner of PSI Screen Printing has a similar story. Jodi told me how they are 'busier than ever', as Aussie companies are now turning to local suppliers. The Currumbin business used JobKeeper to get them through the tough months and is now in a position to employ more staff.
The Morrison Government is investing $62.8 million in a Local Jobs Program, to help connect job seekers to local employment opportunities. One of the 14 new Employment Facilitators will be based on the Gold Coast.
We are also investing $10 million in funding to stimulate our tourism industry and encourage Aussies to visit our amazing city. The Gold Coast has been hit hard by international border closures, as well as state border closures.
The southern Gold Coast in particular has suffered greatly due to state border restrictions, which is why I am thrilled to be part of the Our Border Region coffee table book. It tells the story of our stunning community and can help promote our region. You can contact my office for a free copy - and be sure to tell your friends and family to holiday here this year!
Take care,
