We may be closed at the moment but projects are continuing at Block 19. We have taken the time to tick off jobs on our list and complete some new projects.

With instructions from the artist, we have repaired the models and re-painted the plinths for the displays in the Recreation Hut, which accompany the stop-motion film ‘Remembering Bonegilla’.

An undercover bike shelter has been installed to cover the existing bike racks and there has been a tank created to suit the tank stand next to the kitchen.

We have also seen the installation of an undercover picnic area thanks to the Building Better Regions Fund. This will be a lovely area for families to gather with a picnic or for the Bonegilla Migrant Experience team to welcome tour or school groups.

Two of our volunteers received volunteer awards earlier this year. Barry Barton recieved the Two Cities One Community Award and Gary Mawby received the Individual Volunteer of the Year (pictured).

Congratulations to you both. We thank you for your commitment to Bonegilla and the local community in all the volunteer roles you take on.

We would also like to thank the rest of our casuals and volunteers for their flexibility so far this year. You have all navigated complete closure due to restrictions, significant changes and the implementation of new COVIDsafe procedures.

We have an amazing team who have a true passion for the site and often their own connection to it. They take time to share and give as much information to visitors as possible.

Bonegilla Migrant Experience doesn’t hold any historical records. All applications for information of arrivals and ID cards are through the National Archives of Australia website.

The resource kit of learning materials encourages inquiry-based explorations of primary sources such as contemporary films, documents in the National Archives of Australia, the personal testimonies of migrants and press reports of the day retrieved via Trove.

Bonegilla Migrant Experience is closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

When it is time to re-open, we will be open to visitors Saturday, Sunday and Mondays from 10am to 4pm. 

Closed Anzac Day and Christmas Day.

Admission to the site remains free.
