We can close the book and start a new chapter today.

John,

As Vice President Joe Biden and Donald Trump prepare for the first Presidential debate tonight, I wanted to take a second to talk to you about how we can secure America’s future. To start? We must make sure that every LGBTQ candidate has the resources they need to face bigoted attacks and win on Election Night. Victory Fund must raise $20K by Wednesday night to win – will you donate today?

I believe that Joe is going to defeat Trump’s toxic politics in November. And believe me, I know how hard it is to beat a bigot at the ballot box: to make history as Florida’s first openly LGBTQ state Senator, I had to beat two! One of my opponents ran to promote “Family Values” and claimed, “there is an image that God says marriage should look like.” The other pushed bathroom bills and said “I have gay friends. But they have their rights. I have my rights."

Victory Fund knew I had a fight on my hands with these two. They mobilized grassroots donors to support my race and drove media coverage of my campaign. They helped generate the headlines that exposed my opponents’ homophobia. And then I won. Now, more candidates need our help – chip in today!

As if that wasn’t bad enough, fake robocalls were sent to voters claiming that President Obama had endorsed one of my opponents, which he never did. In another attack, voters in my district were sent text messages that talked about my “homosexual contact.” It included a link to a web page that further emphasized my sexual orientation.

Attacks like these are straight out of Trump’s playbook: using the politics of bigoty to win votes. But this November, we can prove that Trump’s and other bigots’ tactics just don’t work on Election Day. Help Victory Fund hit their end of quarter goal and defend LGBTQ candidates like me!

It’s not enough to just beat Trump – we have to beat the candidates that stand with him. Candidates like U.S. Congressman Fred Upton in Michigan, U.S. Congressman Jackie Walorski in Indiana and U.S. Congressman Tom Reed in New York – all of whom block equality legislation at the federal level and vote to strip healthcare from millions of Americans. We need to beat candidates like my opponents and countless others who attempt to rollback marriage equality and target trans folks in state legislatures. And we can defeat all of them with LGBTQ candidates in November.

No matter what nonsense thing you hear Trump say on the debate stage tonight, don’t forget that together, we can build a better America. We can beat bigots everywhere this November. Power Victory Fund’s movement today and end this chapter in our history!

Thanks again for standing with LGBTQ candidates,

Shevrin Jones
Soon to be the first openly LGBTQ state Senator in Florida!
