               Absentee Ballot Errors in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY- Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) issued the following statement after a multitude of Brooklyn voters reported receiving absentee ballots with errors:

"We are standing a month away from arguably the most important election in over a decade and I am disappointed that we are witnessing an uptick in voter suppression in our community. My constituents throughout central and south Brooklyn have reported errors on their absentee ballots, including the wrong names and addresses placed on their ballot envelopes. The lack of response from the New York City Board of Elections is deeply concerning and unacceptable, considering my constituents have not been able to get through the phone lines to report these inaccuracies."

"These discrepancies will invalidate the voters’ ballots and we must make every effort to preserve the right to vote, particularly when the error was created by a lack of oversight. As a result, I am urging the Board of Elections to investigate and resolve this matter with the utmost expediency and to reissue all mail-in ballots due to the density of complaints my office has received."

"Public trust is at an all-time low with mail-in ballots being directly undercut by the Trump Administration’s attempts to undermine the USPS and threats to tie up ballots in court. We cannot allow anyone to disenfranchise our community and we must reassure Brooklynites that not only is their right to vote protected, but the integrity of the ballot will be maintained and rectified."
