Help Animals by Making a Plan to Vote

The election is just around the corner, and your vote can be incredibly important for animals! Your legislators at the federal, state, and local levels make crucial policy decisions about everything from improving welfare standards for farm animals to protecting endangered species to prohibiting the use of exotic animals in circuses. They have the power to dramatically move the needle on how animals are treated. That is why it is vital to establish a plan to vote.

1. Register to vote--if you are not already registered--before your state's deadline, so that you can vote in the November election. Look at this map to see when voter registration ends in your state, and then click here to register. It only takes two minutes! If you are unsure whether you are already registered, find out here.
2. Learn about the options for voting in your state and decide whether you would like to vote in person or by mail (also known as absentee voting). Even if you plan to vote in person--either during early voting or on Election Day (November 3)--you can request a mail-in ballot as a backup in case you are unable to make it to the polls. Remember that if you return your mail-in ballot, you cannot vote in person, and if you request a mail-in ballot but vote in person, your vote may be provisional until officials verify you have not sent your mail-in ballot. 3. Vote! Determine the deadline to return your mail-in ballot or the date early voting starts and ends in your state. In many states, voters can send their mail-in ballot back either by US mail or by putting it in a designated drop box. If you plan to vote in person, find a polling place near you. Lastly, we encourage you to reach out to three friends and family members to make sure they have the information they need to successfully cast their ballot.
