1 Million Dead

The global death toll from the coronavirus pandemic eclipsed 1 million on Monday night—a figure that is almost certainly an undercount, as the Washington Post reports.

Stalled House Negotiations

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is holding out one more day for an eleventh-hour agreement with Republicans on a coronavirus relief package, hoping to clinch a longshot deal as talks with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin drag on this week. After a 50-minute conversation today, Pelosi and Mnuchin made plans to speak again Wednesday on their effort to deliver trillions of dollars in relief, as Politico reports.

Netanyahu to UN: Hezbollah Storing Missiles in Beirut

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today accused the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah of maintaining a “secret arms depot” in a residential neighborhood of Beirut, warning it could cause another tragic explosion in the Lebanese capital, as the AP reports.

The Tennessee Titans suspended all in-person activities today after three players and five members of the team’s personnel tested positive, the first such outbreak to hit a team since training camps began in late July. The Minnesota Vikings, who hosted the Titans on Sunday, also shut down in-person activities.

This Town Tomorrow

Tomorrow, at 9:00 a.m., join the CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program for its fifth session in the Energy Innovation Series, which will focus on innovation occurring in alternative fuels, including biofuels, power-to-liquids, and hydrogen.

In the latest episode of Thank You For Your Service, hosts Jim Golby and Alice Hunt Friend speak with Tapper and Lurie as well as with Ty Carter (Medal of Honor recipient and film adviser), Daniel Rodriguez (who fought in the battle and played himself in the movie), Stoney Portis (the last commander of Combat Outpost Keating), and Katie Kopp (the brigade psychologist who helped soldiers process and debrief the 14-hour firefight) about the battle, the movie, and mental health.
