Testify by phone Tues (SD) or Thurs (NE), 4-8pm CT
John --
In case you missed our webinar on Sunday, here's all the details you need to dial-in, and Testimony Tips for the public hearings this week on proposed Keystone XL water permits to cross U.S. waterways, conducted by the U.S. Army Corps and state agencies. The Nebraska-focused hearing that will include participation from the Omaha Army Corps office, and the Nebraska Dept. of Environment & Energy, is this Thursday, Oct. 1, 4-8pm CT:
You may call in 5 minutes before start time to join the comments queue (Call at 3:55 p.m. CT!)
You don't need to physically live on the pipeline route to comment -- KXL would impact all of our climate, and we all live downstream: comments are open to anyone in the U.S.
You will be asked your name, and then placed in a numbered queue, where you will be muted while you listen to other speakers, until it is your turn to testify for 3 minutes.
While the focus of these reviews is the pipeline's direct impacts to water crossings, the factors being considered and that public comments can address are more broad and general, including:
Is Keystone XL in the "public interest"?
Does Keystone XL serve "in general, the needs and welfare of the people"?
Pipeline Safety, Oil Spills & Environmental Concerns, Water Quality
Thanks to all who registered and were able to join our NoKXL Update and Public Hearings webinar on Sunday, and special thanks to speakers Angeline Cheek from Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux Tribes and ACLU of Montana, Dallas Goldtooth from Indigenous Environmental Network, and Bold's Jane Kleeb.
If you're not able to dial-in and testify this week, be sure to submit a written comment opposing the KXL water permits by the updated comments deadline: Oct. 13.
Hope to hear you on the line to defend our water at the KXL public hearings today and Thursday.
