Greetings friends.
Amid the ongoing social and economic crises, Governor Gavin Newsom
has a chance to defend hospitality workers across California by
signing?AB?3216?into law.?The
bill, which has passed both houses of the state legislature, would
give hospitality workers the "Right of Recall" -- the opportunity to
return to their workplaces by seniority when the work returns, instead
of potentially being passed over for younger, cheaper labor.
But time is running out -- Governor Newsom has until
tomorrow evening (Wednesday 9/30) to sign the bill, and he's being
pressured by the hotel industry not to do so.??
As a result, hospitality workers and clergy from around the
state have began caravans to the state capitol last week, and have
just launched a hunger strike as well, and have been doing daily
delegations to visit Governor Newsom. Last week workers? delivered a
letter from over 50 members of Jesuit West province demanding the
passage of AB 3216, and?the
workers' fight has been covered in the Jesuit publication, America
Magazine, but still no movement from our Governor.
As a result we need everyone's help?TODAY, Tues 9/29:
- We need folks to call Governor Newsom TODAY, urging
