On the second day of early voting in Virginia, a group of right-wing Trump
supporters gathered outside a polling location – waving flags and chanting
in a clear attempt to intimidate voters.

The staff on site said, "Some voters, and elections staff, did feel
intimidated by the crowd and we did provide escorts past the group." It’s
clear, John, that
we can’t depend on anyone else to ensure people are able to vote freely
and safely.

That’s why Women’s March is partnering with Working Families Party,
Movement for Black Lives Electoral Justice Project, and dozens of other
organizations around the country to organize Election Defenders at local
polling places across the country on November 3rd.

A massive turnout of trained community members offering voters safe
support will not only help keep voters in line who are waiting to cast
their vote if tension breaks out, but also counter attempts by white
supremacists to undermine the integrity and credibility of the election.

Unlike traditional poll watchers, Election Defenders will be trained to
de-escalate right-wing intimidation tactics and signal to a network of
lawyers if and where trouble breaks out. They will also provide PPE and
water to voters to ensure everyone can vote safely.

As an Election Defender you’ll learn:

* Poll monitoring
* Bystander training
* De-escalation
* Direct Action 101
* How to combat disinformation

Protecting the rights of people to vote in-person on November 3rd means
thousands of people signing up for different roles. We are depending on
you to ensure people are able to vote freely and safely.

That means putting our bodies on the line to defend the right of all
people to vote – especially those historically targeted by voter
suppression. It also means getting organized locally so that we’re safer
on Election Day and ready for whatever comes after.
