Tonight, Trump and Biden will face-off in the industrial battleground state of Ohio in their first presidential debate of 2020, and the stakes have never been higher.
Trump and Mike Pence are campaigning across Ohio, Michigan, and the rest of the Midwest, peddling the same lies about “bringing back” jobs that they used to beat Hillary Clinton.
In 2016, Trump won big in Trumbull County, the traditionally blue stronghold in northeast Ohio where I live, helping Trump carry the state after it twice voted for Obama-Biden. Workers at the GM Lordstown plant here - worried about our good union jobs getting shipped to Mexico - believed Trump when he declared “I will bring auto jobs back to America.”
Four years later, it’s obvious that Trump duped working class voters. Under Trump, GM laid-off 14,000 workers in Ohio, Michigan, and other states.
John, polls show that Trump is leading Biden on “jobs and the economy,” and the establishment is making the same mistake of not engaging working class voters in the industrial heartland that caused Hillary Clinton to lose to Donald Trump in 2016. That’s why the organizing I’m doing with Our Revolution to expose Trump’s lies is so critical (including at tonight’s debate).
Can I count on you to chip in before our final quarterly budget deadline before the election to help us do the work necessary to beat Trump that the establishment refuses to do?

Trump visited our community in 2017 and told workers “don’t sell your homes - jobs are coming back." After going through three GM plant closings, I wanted to believe him.
But he LIED. He didn’t lift a finger when GM shuttered the Lordstown plant and laid off 5,000 workers, including me and my fiance Cheryl. Instead, the Trump administration rewarded GM with $700 million in lucrative federal contracts and massive tax breaks.
Because of Trump’s lies, Cheryl and I are selling our house that was our American dream.
GM is a billion-dollar company that was built on the backs of workers like me and Cheryl. If we had a government that stood up to companies like GM and demanded they put their workers first, our lives wouldn’t be decided by the whims of corporate greed.
Instead, we have a president who has broken promise after promise.
To add insult to injury, Trump and Pence are on the campaign trail claiming that they “saved” GM Lordstown even though the factory is empty and that Trumbull County is “booming.”
We cannot allow Trump and Pence to keep spreading lies about saving jobs. And we can’t afford to let Democrats ignore working class voters in Ohio, Michigan and other battlegrounds again if we want to win the White House. That’s why Our Revolution groups across the Midwest are organizing workers like me to spread the word about Trump’s broken promises. Rush a donation now to help us do this critical work before it’s too late for workers and our democracy! We deserve to reclaim the American dream. Chuckie Denison Former GM Lordstown Worker
