Jack,
The latest poll out of Texas shows Joe Biden tied with Donald Trump—48%-48%. This is incredible news—and would have been almost unthinkable four years ago.

With Joe Biden at the top of the ticket, we have a historic opportunity to turn Texas blue. And Off the Sidelines has endorsed seven phenomenal women for the House and Senate in Texas who will get the job done. All seven of these incredible women have been endorsed by End Citizens United—highlighting their commitment to getting money out of politics. And all seven have a real shot at flipping their seats with the right resources in the home stretch of this race.

I wanted to give you a few updates on each of these candidates, and what it’s going to take for them to win. Please, take a moment to get to know these fantastic women—and then split a donation between their campaigns to flip the Senate, expand our House majority and turn Texas blue.

Thank you for all your support,
Stefanie

SUA is targeting the one million registered Democratic women in Texas who have never voted since registering—and making sure they vote in November. Annie’s List supports and helps elect progressive, pro-choice women to state and local office in Texas.

MJ Hegar (TX-Senate)

MJ Hegar is a combat veteran and working mom running to defeat Texas Senator John Cornyn and flip the Senate. Sen. Cornyn doesn't have sky-high name recognition in Texas, which means MJ has the opportunity to earn the support of the undecided Texas voters that could swing this race.

Polling: The latest poll out of Texas shows MJ trailing Cornyn by just two points—40%-38%. This is a huge deal, and highlights just how many voters are still undecided. If MJ has the resources to get more ads on the air and make her case to Texans, she can flip this seat.

Candace Valenzuela (TX-24)

Candace Valenzuela is a political outsider who experienced homelessness at a young age, worked odd jobs throughout college to make ends meet, ultimately becoming the first member of her family to graduate college. Candace would be the first Afro-Latina elected to Congress in this increasingly competitive district.

Cook Political Report rating: Toss-up

Polling: The latest polling out of TX-24 shows Candace Valenzuela tied with her GOP opponent, 36%-36%.

Lulu Seikaly (TX-03)

Lulu Seikaly is a first-generation American, attorney and advocate for her community who is running to flip this highly competitive North Texas seat. TX-03 has never elected a woman to Congress, but Lulu can absolutely change that this year.

Cook Political Report rating: Toss-up

Polling: The latest poll, released mid-September, has Lulu trailing freshman GOP Rep. Van Taylor by a single point, 44%-43%.

Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23)

Gina Ortiz Jones first ran for this seat in 2018, and came within 1,000 votes of flipping TX-23. Gina’s running again in 2020—and this time, it’s an open seat, giving her a huge opportunity to win, and be the first Asian American, first openly LGBTQ person, and first Iraq War veteran to represent Texas in Congress.

Cook Political Report rating: Lean Democratic

Polling: The latest poll shows this is a tight race, with Gina leading her opponent by just one point, 41%-40%.

Julie Oliver (TX-25)

Julie Oliver often shares her story—dropping out of school, living in abandoned buildings, and becoming pregnant at 17, before going on to finish high school, putting herself through college and law school with a young family, and going on to a career in health care finance and non-profit accounting—because its a story of the everyday struggles that so many Americans face every day. Now, she’s running to flip this heavily gerrymandered—but winnable—district.

Polling: Julie is behind her GOP opponent by just two points in the latest September poll, 43%-41%.

Sima Ladjevardian (TX-02)

Sima Ladjevardian is a lawyer, a mother of two, a breast cancer survivor, and a political activist running for Congress to fight for Texas working families. Her opponent is a member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus, and boasts the full support of Donald Trump.

Polling: Polling in TX-02 is scant, but the DCCC added Sima to it’s “Red-to-Blue” list over the summer, signalling just how seriously they take this seat—and how winnable it is.

Wendy Davis (TX-21)

You’re likely familiar with Wendy Davis’ story: Her historic 13-hour filibuster to fight for women’s reproductive rights, her game-changing run for governor, and her tireless advocacy on behalf of women and all Texas families. Now, she’s running to flip one of Texas’ most competitive House seats at a time when our reproductive rights are under attack.

Cook Political Report rating: Toss-up

Polling: An August poll shows Wendy Davis leading her GOP incumbent opponent (and former chief-of-staff to Sen. Ted Cruz) by a single point, 48%-47%.
