I would know. Eleven years ago I became the 8th woman to ever give birth while serving in Congress. Since then, I've been a fierce advocate for expanding paid family leave and making child care more affordable.
Now, in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis, there's never been a better, more critical time to pass policies that will ease the burden on working parents.
The U.S. currently spends far less on families and children compared to other developed countries. In fact, we're the only industrialized country without a national paid family leave program. To make matters worse, child care costs have increased approximately 2,000% since the 1970s, while wages have stagnated.
We cannot afford to go on like this.
Working families, especially single-parent households, need Congress to step up and deliver common-sense policies like paid family leave and child care assistance.
Here's my promise: as long as I'm in Congress, I'll fight like hell to make life easier for children and families. Will you join me in this fight by making a donation to my re-election campaign today?
