Washington, DC - Upon hearing the nomination of a Trump Administration appointee for the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) due to the recent passing of Justice Ginsburg, OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates denounces this hasty action. Despite the call from nonprofit community partners ([link removed]) ,elected officials ([link removed]) , and the American public ([link removed]) alike, the Administration has pushed through a nominee for the vacancy on SCOTUS.

Judge Barrett’s track record in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit shows a history of legal decisions which would adversely affect Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities if she became a SCOTUS Justice. Equitable immigration ([link removed]) practices and access to women’s health care, and general health care ([link removed]) , are at stake.

“Allowing time for the American public to remember the legacy of Justice Ginsburg, properly assessing and vetting a candidate, and ensuring the country can vote in the next president who should nominate the next Justice is only right” says Roland Hwang, OCA Vice President of Public Affairs. “With less than 40 days until the General Election, it’s imperative that the Trump Administration does not make hasty decisions to fill the vacancy on the Court. They must listen to the voice of the American people, or our democracy becomes further at stake.”

OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates is a national civil rights organization dedicated to improving the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
