How can practitioners such as financial institutions, governments, and consumer organizations leverage data to improve consumer protection outcomes in digital finance? IPA’s Practitioner’s Forum is a new global community where our network of researchers and practitioners will review studies that address common consumer protection challenges in digital finance through new research methods. Through a curated webinar series, we will share policy insights from IPA projects aimed at improving financial consumer protection outcomes on topics such as fraud and complaints handling, product transparency, and consumer choice and comparisons.

In this first webinar of the series, Dani Madrid-Morales (University of Houston) and Melissa Tully (University of Iowa) will share their analysis of 12 months of social media data in Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda . Their research offers insights into how social media data can be used to measure consumers’ challenges with digital finance, and how institutions can leverage this information to help consumers resolve these challenges. Morayo Adebayo of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission of Nigeria (FCCPC) will provide comments and reactions, followed by an interactive Q&A session, moderated by Initiative Director, Rafe Mazer. We hope you are able to join us on September 29th, and we look forward to a stimulating discussion.
