Dear Friends,

The United States has a moral responsibility to welcome and shelter refugees who are fleeing torture, violent conflicts, famine, and other tragedies. Unfortunately, though, President Trump does not feel that moral responsibility, which is why in 2019 his Administration cut the number of refugees who could be allowed into the country to an all-time low of only 18,000 in FY 2020.

TELL CONGRESS: LIFT THE REFUGEE CAP

The Trump Administration is currently deciding how many refugees will be admitted to the U.S. in FY 2021. Troubling new reports indicate that the Administration may delay setting the admissions goal and may further cut the admissions goal from its already historic low of 18,000. By September 30th, the Administration is required by U.S. law to consult with leaders of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees before setting next year’s refugee admissions goal.

Please write to your Members of Congress now and ask them to lift the cap on refugee admissions to the Obama era number of 110,000 refugees. We are fortunate to live in a powerful, well-off nation. We should not abandon those who are less fortunate.

Sincerely,

Rev. Ron Stief
Executive Director
