PFLAG Connects

Dear John:

There's no denying it's been a rough few weeks. Between the election, which is already underway in many states, and the recent Supreme Court announcement--all on top of the COVID-19 pandemic--we could all use new ways to connect and stay connected. Here are some Support, Education, and Advocacy suggestions for you this week. As always, PFLAG is here for you!

Support

Mass General's Mental Health Resources for BIPOC

In addition to COVID-19, recent events have brought heightened attention to the specific stressors faced by Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, who may be experiencing heightened fear, anger, and grief at this time. Our friends at Mass General offer resources that may be useful for those seeking support for mental-health concerns and/or coping with race-related stressors. Of particular note is the list of self-guided virtual resources! We encourage you to check them out, and consider sharing them on social media to spread the word.

Check out these resources now!

Education

Three Steps to Being a Better Advocate for Voter Mobilization in Your State

Just because you’re staying in, and times are tough, doesn't mean your GOTV efforts should stop! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

  1. Learn: Our friends at Nonprofit Vote have a great list of voter mobilization tools, all of which are nonprofit safe! Learn more about their seven tested tips to mobilize voters in your state, all while staying in our 501(c)(3) lane.
  2. Watch: Watch this video about voter mobilization in the time of a global pandemic from Columbia World Projects and check out the June PFLAG Academy On-Demand session PFLAG Votes 2020: Our Right and Our Responsibility.
  3. Share: Use emails, texts, and social media to share your state-specific plan to vote and participate in the seven-day #2020VotePlan challenge to mobilize your friends and family.

Advocacy

Voter registration deadlines are coming up!

Are you registered to vote? Are your friends and loved ones? October 4th is the first deadline in a state for voting, with more coming up soon after that. The time is NOW to get registered, and then help others do the same. You can find our voter registration tools at pflag.org/blog/voterregistration, but here's a favorite: the voter registration check from Vote.org. Check it out!

Something to Talk About...Live!
