Friends -- This week, the legislature is convening a special session to address issues related to COVID-19, like unemployment insurance. Unfortunately, some in the legislature are putting our loved ones and economic recovery at risk by playing politics, and trying to take away the Governor’s emergency powers during this crisis.
This could put millions in recovery dollars at risk. Don't let it happen.
In a statement released by Gov. Edwards last week, he reitered the progress we've made as a state:
“Put simply, the measures we have taken in Louisiana are working and we are making significant progress. However, to abandon these efforts in defiance of the unanimous advice of the public health experts and the Trump administration would seriously jeopardize the lives of our people and the gains we have made. Further, it is important to remember our work in containing COVID-19 is far from done, as Louisiana still has the highest number of per capita infections in the country."
Dr. Deborah Birx of The White House's Coronavirus Task Force visited LSU last week with a strong message of support for our efforts: "We've learned from Louisiana that masks work."
Louisiana’s leaders are working with the White House to protect our families from COVID-19. As Vice President Mike Pence said, "We support Governor John Bel Edwards and his health officials’ decisions. And we encourage people to heed the guidance of state and local authorities."
Tell your representatives: We don't want politics getting in the way of public health!
We want to send a strong message right now that Louisianans are united on this and we support Gov. Edwards. By contacting your representative, you'll be part of our growing community reminding our Legislative leadership to work in an honest and transparent manner to support a healthy and stronger Louisiana.
Join us now and tell your representatives that we are watching and expect them to do what is right for all of us.
Thanks for taking action,
The Team at A Stronger Louisiana
