Dear friend,
[ ]( # )

My name is Margret and I am a volunteer for Send a Cow in Uganda. I teach other families in my community about sustainable agriculture and health and hygiene at home. I have been doing this for a year now and have learned a lot as well as making so many new friends.

I have been able to pass knowledge and skills to my peers, which they are now replicating in their own homes. I have demonstrated farming techniques such as keyhole gardens and tip taps so families have enough food and can stay well. Seeing this ripple effect is what motivates me the most.

When lockdown was announced, people in my community were worried about what would happen to them and how they could continue to work with Send a Cow. I am pleased to say we have been able to adapt to continue the training with safety precautions in place.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, I have helped families stay safe and healthy by demonstrating how to build a tip tap and the importance of washing hands frequently with soap and water as well as observing social distancing during meetings.

COVID-19 and lockdown have greatly affected our community. We have limited access to seeds and tools and now we are seeing very low value for produce at the market.  As a result, families have had to use any savings they had built up for essential goods. With little left, they are worried about how they will feed their children.

Essential items like soap and sugar have seen a huge increase in price so families are unable to get food anywhere but their farms. And many families with crops to sell are unable to access new markets.

I am grateful to Send a Cow for empowering me to support my community as a volunteer during the pandemic. With your help, we will continue to adapt and help support families to grow enough to eat and keep their families safe and well.
