Today, the European Parliament’s
Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs will hold a Monetary
Dialogue with the President of the European Central Bank, Christine
Lagarde. Moreover, the Budgets Committee will take stock of the
progress in the negotiations with the German Presidency on the
Multiannual Financial Framework and Own Resources.
On Wednesday, the Commission is
expected to launch its Digital Education Action Plan. On Thursday and
Friday, after Charles Michel quarantined for a week, EU leaders will
meet for a Special European Council summit. Leaders will discuss
foreign affairs, the single market, industrial policy and digital
transformation.

European Parliament
The Committee on Economic and
Monetary Affairs and ECB President Christine Lagarde are expected to
discuss, amongst other things, accountability mechanisms of major
central banks and possible avenues to improve the ECB's
accountability. Furthermore, the Committee on Budgets will discuss the
MFF and Own Resources negotiations. The Parliament’s objective is to
reach an agreement by the end of October. Moreover, the Committee on
Internal Market and Consumer Protection will vote on its draft report
on the Digital Services Act. The aim is to improve the functioning of
the Single Market. Lastly, the ENVI Committee will go over the 2030
Climate Target Plan with Frans Timmermans, Commissioner for the
European Green Deal.
European Commission
On Tuesday, Commissioner Ylva
Johansson meets Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia. Moreover,
on Wednesday, the College of Commissioners will focus on the Digital
Education Action Plan, European Education Area, and the Research and
Innovation and the European Research Area. The Digital Education
Action Plan will support Member States, education and training
institutions and citizens in their efforts to adapt to the digital
transition and help ensure a fair and inclusive recovery for all.

European Council
The summit, initially planned for
24 and 25 September, has been moved to this week as President Michel
was in quarantine. EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss foreign
affairs, in particular relations with Turkey and the situation in the
Eastern Mediterranean. The leaders are also expected to address
relations with China, the situation in Belarus and the poisoning of
Alexei Navalny. The single market, industrial policy and digital
transformation are also on the agenda.
