This can’t wait, John: This weekend, members of the Proud Boys, white supremacist group, gathered in Portland in a show of power and intimidation against Black Lives Matter and antiracist activists.
Some wore shirts and held signs honoring the 17-year-old gunman who was charged with murdering two Black Lives Matter protesters in Kenosha, WI. Many were armed with multiple firearms, including AR-15s.
This isn't an isolated event. Across the country, fair-right hate groups are being emboldened by Donald Trump to take advantage of lax gun laws and incite fear and violence.
Let’s be clear: Hate and bigotry should not be armed. But loopholes are allowing prohibited purchasers to skirt background checks and extreme risk protection orders with untraceable, unregulated ghost guns — even AR-15-style assault rifles (!) — at an alarming rate. And sales of these unchecked weapons are surging during the coronavirus pandemic.
We’re fighting back with everything we have at Brady. We know that white supremacist violence — coupled with our nation's weak gun laws and a President who incites violence — poses a lethal threat to all of our communities. It’s time we push back and demand our legislators fight hate and take action ensure that those who intend to cause harm are never able to obtain guns. But we need to know you’re by our side on this critical issue, John:
