Hi, tonight the Jewish community commemorates Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
We pray together, we fast together, and we think back on the things we should have done differently in the year before. For the Jewish community, it is the holiest day of the year.
Normally Yom Kippur is a time to unite as a community, but this year, our unique circumstances mean that traditions may be disrupted. We mourn this loss, but we recognize these sacrifices as reminders of the work we still need to do. We must ensure that all of us will be safe and healthy by this time next year — this will take constant effort over these next few weeks and months.
I hope you can join me in commemorating this sacred Holiday. To those who are observing tonight, I wish you an easy and meaningful fast.
Yours,
Josh Gottheimer
