Macayle Fuchs has been a member of NYYRC since Fall 2019 and remains determined to spread conservatism among the youth. She comes from a strongly conservative family with backgrounds in law enforcement and the armed forces. Growing up in Queens, NY, she lived the successes and failures of New York City politics. Macayle actually began her political career interning for Democratic Councilman Paul A. Vallone’s office (D-19). She admits it was a learning experience to see things from the other end of the political spectrum, but her conservative views were only strengthened and pursued throughout college. This year, Vallone has voted to defund police and close Rikers Island.
Macayle is currently a Junior at St. John’s University in Queens, NY pursuing a degree in Homeland Security. She hopes to begin a career in the Behavioral Intelligence or Emergency Management fields. Through the Homeland Security program, she has discovered many students and professors who hold conservative values but are afraid to defend their opinions. To combat this injustice, Macayle co-founded and is currently the Vice President of the College Republicans at St. John’s University. At St. John’s, the College Republicans have faced backlash by both the general student body and student government. They were denied recognition by the school due to concerns of how to handle racism or bias within the club. However, the only racism and bias has been from other students. The College Republicans have been called “white supremacists” and “Neo-Nazis” on social media. However, more students are recognizing the College Republicans simply for exercising patriotism. The St. John’s University College Republicans remains a diverse organization resilient in the fight for free speech on college campuses.
Macayle is also the New York City Region Chair of the New York Federation of College Republicans, the NY chapter of the College Republican National Committee. The NYFCR helps local candidates advertise their campaigns to a larger audience. A few candidates already aided this year were Andrew Garbarino and Lee Zeldin. As the NYC Regional Chair, Macayle supports and oversees the functions of the College Republicans at all participating NYC universities. This year has been admittedly difficult due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In her free time, Macayle volunteers at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside, NY. She is the youngest member of the Community Advisory Board which works with hospital administration to plan fundraising events and gather community support. St. Mary’s Hospital cares for children with special needs and is the only center in NYC that offers post-acute care for these kids. The goal is to make St. Mary’s as well-known as other institution because it is truly a magical place.
